✨ How Nāda Lahari Was Received
It was during Brahma Muhurta, in that sacred stillness when thought had not yet risen, that something awoke inside me.
It wasn’t a word.
It wasn’t a tune.
It was a resonance — a silent pulse, echoing not in the ears, but in the heart-space behind breath.
From that space, one line emerged. Then another.
And before the sun had risen, a full 12-verse hymn had flowed through me — untouched by the mind, unsought by effort.
I didn’t write Nāda Lahari. I received it — like a ripple from the first vibration.
📖 Vedic References to Nāda
1. Rigveda 10.125 – Devī Sūkta
“Aham rudrebhiḥ vasubhiś carāmi…”
The goddess Vāk declares herself as the source of divine speech and sound flowing through devas. She is the embodiment of Nāda.
2. Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad
Describes Om̐ as having four parts — waking, dreaming, deep sleep, and Turiya (pure consciousness). Nāda is the subtle link guiding the seeker inward.
3. Hatha Yoga Pradīpikā 4.82–89
“Nādo hi Brahma, Nādo hi Viṣṇuḥ, Nādaḥ Śivaḥ.”
Nāda is not a means but an end — the form of Brahman itself. Meditation on Nāda is direct absorption into the divine.
4. Taittirīya Upaniṣad – Brahmānanda Valli
Explains the layers of bliss leading to Brahman, culminating in Śabda Brahman — the subtlest sound behind all reality.

Verse 1
नादो हि ब्रह्म सनातनं शान्तम्
ॐकार मूलं जगतां निधानम्।
यत्र नादो जृम्भते ध्वनीनां
तत्रैव साक्षात् परमात्म रूपम्॥
Translation:
Nāda is the eternal Brahman — peaceful and still.
Om̐ is its root, the source of all that exists.
Where sound is born as Nāda,
There shines the very form of Paramātmā.
Verse 2
ॐकार नादः प्रथमः प्रकाशः
यस्मिन् विरामन्ति मनांसि सर्वाणि।
स एव साक्षात् पर वाङ्मयस्य
दीपो हि दीपो हृदये विलसति॥
Translation:
Omkāra is the first illumination of Nāda.
In it, all restless minds find rest.
It is the origin of divine speech —
A flame that glows deep in the heart.
Verse 3
न रूपं, न नामं, न वर्ण विभागः
न ग्रन्थ लिपि, न शब्द विधानम्।
नादः स्वयं ज्योतिर् अनन्त वाणी
येनाक्षराणामपि मूलम् उद्गीथम॥
Translation:
Nāda has no form, no name, no lettered division.
No script, no definition.
It is self-effulgent — infinite, luminous speech.
The root even of syllables and sacred utterance.
Verse 4
यद् अनाहतं मधुरं विशुद्धम्
न बाह्या वाणी न च मुख निःश्वासः।
अन्तः स्फुरत्य् हृदि नादवृक्षः
यत्र श्रूयते स्वयमेव वेदाः॥
Translation:
That which is sweet, pure, and unstruck —
Not outer voice, nor breath’s whisper —
It pulses within like a Nāda-tree
Where the Vedas sing themselves.
Verse 5
तालेन गीतं लयेन जीवम्
नादः प्रसूते रसं दिव्य चक्षुषा।
नाट्यं नृत्यं वीणा विलासम्
सर्वं हि नाद विकासभूमिः॥
Translation:
Nāda gives rhythm to song, and life to silence.
It reveals rasa through the divine eye.
Dance, music, and melody arise
On the fertile ground of Nāda.
Verse 6
नादः हि बिन्दुं, बिन्दुर् हि कालम्
कालः प्रसूते जगतां विचित्रम्।
तस्मात् न नादं विना जगत्स्थितिः
नादः सदाशिवरूपम् अजन्तम्॥
Translation:
Nāda becomes the bindu; bindu becomes time.
Time gives rise to the worlds.
Thus, without Nāda, no creation stands.
Nāda is the unborn form of Sadāśiva.
Verse 7
स एष नादः हृदये प्रवृत्तः
ज्ञानाग्निजालं दहति पृथिव्याम्।
सारं हि नादः तपसां फलञ्च
यत्र प्रवाहः तत्र मोक्षमार्गः॥
Translation:
This Nāda flows within the heart.
It burns ignorance with the fire of knowledge.
It is the fruit of tapas, its essence.
Where Nāda flows — there lies the path to moksha.
Verse 8
रागः समुद्रः लयेन हि सागरः
नादः हि सेतुः अन्तरं पवित्रम्।
स्वरः हि वेदः, उचितं हि कालः
स नाद पूज्यः, न मूर्तिमात्रः॥
Translation:
Rāga is the ocean, Laya its sea.
Nāda is the sacred bridge between.
Swara is the Veda; rhythm its timing.
Nāda is to be worshipped — not merely as form.
Verse 9
यस्य नादं स्फुरति अन्तर्वह्निः
स योगिनां योगी, स कवीनां कविः।
न शास्त्रं, न शास्त्रम्, न दीक्षा, न यज्ञः
नादैकसिद्धिः परमार्थसिद्धिः॥
Translation:
He in whom Nāda burns as inner fire
Is the yogi of yogis, the poet of poets.
No scripture, ritual, or initiation compares —
Nāda alone grants the ultimate siddhi.
Verse 10
ध्यानं न दृष्टिः, न रूपं न लक्ष्यम्
नादः हि सूक्ष्मः ध्वनि लीनभावः।
स हृत्पुष्पे ज्वलति अव्यक्तदीपः
यं नारिषु, नागाः, नरा अपि यान्ति॥
Translation:
Not vision, not form, not object —
Nāda is subtle — sound dissolved in bhāva.
It burns like a flame in the heart’s lotus
Where gods, serpents, and men are drawn.
Verse 11
ॐकार वाच्यः, न वाच्यः हि नादः
साक्षात् परं ब्रह्मरूपं शिवानाम्।
यं ध्यायति धीरो अन्तर मौनम्
स एव सृष्टिस्थितिनाशकर्ता॥
Translation:
Om̐ is expressible, but Nāda is not.
It is the revealed form of Brahman and Shiva.
He who meditates on it in silence
Knows the creator, sustainer, and dissolver.
Verse 12 – Aśīrvāda
नादं स्मरन्, नाममात्रं न पश्येत्
नादं भजन्, नारकोऽपि सुशान्तः।
नादः हि मन्त्रः, गुरुः, देवपूज्यः
येनैव सारं जगतां समस्तम्॥
Translation:
One who remembers Nāda sees beyond names.
Even the troubled finds peace through it.
Nāda is mantra, guru, and deity —
It is the very essence of all worlds.

Nāda Lahari is not a hymn. It is a soul-river, flowing from silence into syllable. It begins not with intent, but with surrender — a remembering, not an invention. Each verse is a wave of consciousness echoing the one soundless sound that preceded all mantras. It is the root of Veda, the unseen link between thought and illumination, the silence within song. The Lahari does not ask to be worshipped — it simply carries you inward. One does not recite Nāda Lahari to pray. One enters it to disappear. And what remains… is Nāda alone — the Self in pure vibration.
